We have a very experienced guest teacher, Pat Hickman, who comes into the school to teach GCSE dance. Because they have such a high dance skills base, our students can take this GCSE in one year instead of two, and from Year 9. It proves to be a very enjoyable extra, both to their studies at school and at Bev-Lyn, and in the past the students have achieved excellent grades.
They learn contemporary dance, choreography, safe practice, anatomy, learn a set study and study professional dance works.
A-Level Dance
We run this course (taught by Pat Hickman and Melissa Glover) over two years and follow the syllabus of the AQA Examinations Board.
The course is divided into 6 units. Students have to choreograph a solo and a group piece, study dance notation, look at professional dance works, learn a set study, write essays and take contemporary classes. We arrange theatre visits as part of this course.
Students can take this course early and we have had very good results in the past.
