The latest from Bev-Lyn on Twitter
ADULT TAP BACK AGAIN
Adult Tap starts again on Tuesday 17th January. Beginners are from 7pm until 8pm; more advanced from 8pm until 9pm. These proved to be very popular, fun classes last term, so they are back. No need to book, just come along.
SCHOOL TRIP TO SEE ELEKTRO KIF AT HfC
This
looks really amazing. If you watch the video on the
Hall for Cornwall website
you will see that this is very different to anything we do here and should be a
great opportunity to see something new.
The company is Blanca Li Dance and according to the blurb they take the urban streetdance style electro, a dazzling mix of breaking, disco, vogue, popping and locking, off the streets of Paris, and mix it up with some theatre, contemporary dance and an amazing soundtrack. Sounds cool.
There is a special schools rate of £6 per ticket and
we hope to get a Bev-Lyn group together to go to the
evening show on Saturday 31st March. The content means that it is
suitable for students aged 11 and over.
If you are interested then let Melissa know by Saturday 28th January.
LATEST TEACHER TRAINING
The Bev-Lyn teachers (in their lovely new t-shirts!) have been busy learning new
syllabus work. This includes the latest Advanced 1 Modern, Grade 4 Tap,
the updated routines for Bronze and Silver Jazz and in half term we go on
a 3 day course to learn the new ballet Grades 1 to 3.
We are loving the new work and can’t wait to get started in class.
DANCING TO BETHLEHEM SUCCESS
Well
done to you all for such a beautiful show. We had lots and lots of messages of
congratulations and I know that some students are already planning which
group and costumes they will be in “next time”. There were plenty of proud
parents wiping away tears on every night.
BEV-LYN STUDENT AWARDED SOLE INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
We are really excited to report that Lizzie Perman has been awarded a special scholarship to next year's Spanish Dance Society (SDS) summer school.
The SDS has exams at dance schools all over the world and they select only one outstanding entrant for the scholarship. This is a really big deal and we are SO proud of Lizzie.
Following an emotional farewell at our end-of-term show in July, two more of our senior students have gone off to dance college. Lowenna Hosken has a place at The Centre in London. Lizzie Perman has decided to head off to Bird's College, also in London, having also been offered a scholarship at Northern Ballet and a place at Rambert.
This is the next stage of their development of a professional career in dance and they both deserve the accolades they are receiving. We wish them well and hope to see them back soon!
MELISSA TAKES A RANDOM CLASS
When Random Dance came to the Hall for Cornwall on their UK tour, they looked for a ballet teacher to take class - and chose Melissa. This proved to be very exciting and very daunting!
"These are brilliant dancers at the peak of physical and technical power" said Melissa. "Add to that the Director is from the Royal Ballet and the assistant Director has just finished choreographing for the Harry Potter films and you get the idea of just how good the company is. I was both flattered and terrified. I have to admit that I didn't get much sleep the night before".
In the end all went well and Melissa hopes to do more work with professional companies in future.
MORE GREAT EXAM RESULTS
Last term was pretty hectic for exams and there is always a delay while we wait for results. We will post a fuller story once all the results are in but what we have received so far suggest that Bev-Lyn students are doing really well. Congratulations to you all.
Particular mention must go to Kimberley Eade, Lizzie Perman and Lowenna Hosken who all achieved their Advanced 1 Modern - the highest score being 95%! These exams are designed for students who are dancing at full-time dance colleges so this is a big achievement for us. We also had 8 students gain their Gold Tap exam - another big deal.
Well done to you all and we'll have a "wall of fame" once the full results are in.
SUMMER SCHOOL 2011 REPORT
Lots of good feedback about Summer School. We did a short piece for the local media; we have put it here along with a few photos. Dates for 2012 will be confirmed shortly.
