Tap

What is Tap?

Apart from being an essential skill for the professional dancer, tap dance is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of recreational dance. The syllabus has just been updated and includes Reggae, Jazz, Urban and pop music - it is brilliant fun and the students all love the challenge.

We combine our tap, modern and jazz lessons into one class. For beginners these are on a Saturday morning and then move to Friday evenings for the seniors.

Our last tap exam session results: 50 Distinction (80-100%) 9 Merit (60-80%) 0 Pass (40-60%)

The tap grades go from Primary to Grade 6 and are designed to help the students through a logical progression of steps and styles, with each grade culminating in dances which combine all they have learnt.

After the grades, the vocational “Major” grades (Intermediate, Advanced 1 & 2) are designed for those looking at becoming professional dancers. All of our students achieve these, whether they are planning on a career in dance, or not. Last year 5 students passed their Advanced 1 tap.

This year a lot of our “old girls” have returned from Uni and we currently have 14 students in our Advanced 2 class which is fantastic.
